Welcome to my new blog!
I am not sure what this blog will really be about yet. I am still figuring that out. What I would like to do is share thoughts and ideas about sustainability, and point folks toward exciting new developments in community and home based sustainable practices, technologies, etc.
For example, I love windmills, all kinds. It's fascinating to me to see the developments in wind energy capturing systems of all shapes and sizes. Did you know that you have to review your weather patterns in your area before you start shopping for windmills? You do. You need to figure out how much wind your area gets, broken down by season, and you also need to know the general ranges of wind direction and speed. This will help determine which kind of windmill will be the safest, strongest and most efficient for your area. Buy a windmill that is too small, and you risk it being overwhelmed and damaged by high, multi-directional winds. Buy a windmill that is not efficient enough at generating current, and it will not be able to provide enough power if the winds in your area are two mild or inconsistent.
